Fact Sheet: Dollywood Water Park Opening in May 2001
| Dolly’s Involvement: |
Dolly is very excited about opening her second themed park. She has been very involved in the creative planning for the new waterpark and will continue to be very involved as the waterpark grows and expands in the coming decade--just as she has been with the Dollywood park. This will be “Dolly’s waterpark,” just as Dollywood is Dolly’s theme park. |
| Opening Date: |
Dollywood’s waterpark will open in May 2001, and its operating season will be from late May through early September; no exact operating calendar has been established yet.
Groundbreaking for the new waterpark will begin in early 2000.
|
| Investment: |
Over $20 million will be invested in the Dollywood waterpark in the new park’s first five years. In subsequent years after the park’s Grand Opening in May 2001, the Dollywood Company will add new adventures to the waterpark each season. |
| Theme: |
Similar to the Dollywood entertainment park, the new waterpark will feature Smoky Mountain themed attractions highlighting the East Tennessee area’s scenic attractions, its natural beauty, and Dolly. Attractions will simulate scenic areas and scenes actually found in the Great Smoky Mountains, including natural waterfalls, the Sinks and other Smokies’ swimming holes, winding streams, white water rafting, and many more natural wonders in this beautiful mountain area.
This will be a waterpark unlike any other recreational park of its kind because of its unique location in the Smokies, the scenic beauty of this area, Dollywood’s commitment to well-themed attractions, and the park’s connection to Dolly. The new waterpark will allow visitors who don’t plan on (or have time to) visit the Great Smoky Mountains National Park to experience some of its natural fun and beauty through unique simulated attractions.

Attractions:
|
The new waterpark’s key attractions will include a Wave Pool, Single and Double Tube Slides, a family Raft Ride enhanced by the natural mountain terrain, a Children’s Play Pool area, a freefall water slide, a Turbo Twister speed slide that “simulates” a mountain waterfall, a Children’s Activity Pool with “silly lily” pads and slides, and the “Lazy River,” a tube float experience for the entire family to enjoy together that takes them through the entire scenic expanse of the new waterpark. These numerous attractions will be accented by Smoky Mountain scenes like waterfalls and mountain streams.
|
| Misc. |
The Dollywood waterpark and its various attractions will be located on approximately 35 acres located adjacent to the Dollywood entertainment park off Middle Creek Road in Pigeon Forge.
Dollywood officials project that the waterpark will draw in excess of 300,000 people in its first season of operation.
