Dolly Parton Announces Contest to Name Her New Waterpark

06/23/2000

Dolly Parton is asking for some help in naming her waterpark through a contest she announced today at a groundbreaking ceremony for the new attraction. The “Name Dolly’s Waterpark” Contest will continue through the end of July.

“When I was a kid, often times thinking and dreaming were all we had to do, so I thought I’d invite folks, especially kids, to use their own imaginations to help me name my new Waterpark,” said Dolly.

The person with the winning entry will be awarded a prize package that includes an outfitters gear package with a canoe signed by Dolly, a private “splash party” for 10 at the new park, and VIP status and a special photo session with Dolly at the park’s Grand Opening in May 2001. Entry forms are available at various locations throughout the Dollywood entertainment park or via Dollywood’s website at www.dollywood.com from the Contest Rules section. Entries will also be accepted by mail at 1020 Dollywood Lane, Pigeon Forge, TN 37863-4101.

Dolly’s new Waterpark is located adjacent to Dollywood off Middle Creek Road in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. Key attractions for the Waterpark include a multi-person family mountain raft ride, a children’s play pool and activity area, a lazy river ride, single and double tube slides, a 25,000 square-foot wave pool, and a free fall water slide. The new park will also offer several food and beverage areas, a bath house, and plentiful benches and shady areas that will allow visitors to enjoy the scenery of the Smoky Mountains. A model can be seen at Dollywood’s Butterfly Emporium.

The new $20 million Waterpark, which will cover nearly 35 acres upon completion, will be unlike any other recreational park of its kind because of its unique location in the Smokies, the scenic beauty of the East Tennessee area, Dollywood’s commitment to well-themed attractions, and the park’s connection to Dolly. It will allow visitors who don’t plan or have time to visit the Great Smoky Mountains National Park the chance to experience some of its natural fun and beauty through unique simulated attractions.

Set to open in mid-May of 2001, the new Waterpark’s operating season will continue through early September and is projected to draw in excess of 300,000 people in its first season. In subsequent years after the park’s Grand Opening, the Dollywood Company will add new adventures to the Waterpark each season.
